‘Forward-thinking healthcare approaches go hand in hand with happier patients,’ says innovation body
‘It is no coincidence that the adoption of forward-thinking approaches to healthcare goes hand in hand with happier patients,’ insists one of Scotland’s leading healthcare innovation bodies
InnoScot Health believes that the integration of cutting-edge ways of working in tandem with safe, proven technologies and a focus on person-centred care can have a significant, measurable impact on patient satisfaction.
The organisation points to a fresh accolade for the NHS Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank to support its view — being named the highest-rated NHS hospital in the UK based on Google reviews.
The Golden Jubilee was given the title following a ranking compiled by website Parents Resource using Google review data from 151 NHS hospitals across the UK.
It achieved the top ranking with an average rating of 4.71 out of 5 from 575 reviews. Chief Executive of NHS Golden Jubilee, Carolynne O’Conner said part of that success should be attributed to the hospital’s commitment to “supporting innovation and improvement across Scotland” as well as “training the healthcare workforce of the future”.
Chief Executive of InnoScot Health, Graham Watson agreed, stating: “The Golden Jubilee says that its focus is firmly on improving outcomes and experiences for patients.
“While the dedication, professionalism, and compassion of staff is no doubt a vital part of delivering that, it is also clear that the hospital has fostered an environment where progressive ways of working are welcomed, and innovation is important to achieving a better level of care.
“Our belief is that people moving through the Scottish healthcare system respond well to the sense that they are receiving the latest treatments in modern facilities, driven by an outward-facing mindset. It is no coincidence then that forward-thinking approaches go hand in hand with happier patients.”
The Golden Jubilee is home to Scotland’s only heart transplant centre and is a national leader in planned care with positive reviews reflecting patient experiences across a range of specialist services including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, diagnostics, heart and lung services, and general surgery.
The hospital’s achievements include becoming the UK’s largest single-site cataract centre, completing a record 13,581 procedures in 2025/2026, and continues to maintain its status as the UK’s largest hip and knee replacement centre.
It also played a key role in delivering a world-first cardiac gene therapy trial as part of ambitions to extend the lifespan of blood vessels in the heart.
Graham added: “Innovation breeds further innovation. Establishing foundational technologies and processes often means fertile ground has been created for sowing the seeds of further breakthroughs and inspiring the drive for continuous evolution.
“The Golden Jubilee is proud to have been recognised by patients and their families for its leading, innovation-driven care, and rightfully so.”
