Free online session invites early innovators to benefit from deconstructing Scotland's healthcare ecosystem
A free webinar for early-stage innovators will invite them to share in vital learnings, helping them to map the right support for best navigating their ideas from development to commercial success
On Tuesday 26 May, InnoScot Health — a key partner in realising healthcare innovation ambitions for Scotland — will be urging forward thinkers to better understand how to navigate the complexities of the country’s health and social care network.
The lunch and learn session, entitled ‘From complexity to clarity: Scotland’s health and social care ecosystem deconstructed for early innovators’, takes place from 12-12.45pm and will be presented by InnoScot Health’s Head of Innovation Commercialisation, Gillian Henderson.
She will introduce the organisation’s ongoing aim to inspire and collaboratively support early-stage innovators across Scotland’s ‘triple helix’ of NHS, industry, and academia, including those in their final year of training or first year of qualified practice.
Gillian will be joined by guest speakers from the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) — experts in digital health and social care, formed from a collaboration between the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde.
Presenting on behalf of DHI will be Digital Health Expert, Yazmin Cáceres-Fegrero, and Head of Research and Skills, Dr Sanna Rimpiläinen.
Along with Senior Business Innovation Manager, Dr Abigail Lyons, they recently unveiled a report, ‘Navigating Scotland's Digital Health and Social Care Innovation Ecosystem’ which notes that “Scotland envisions leading digital health, yet the innovator's path remains a labyrinth”.
The report aims to foster improved understanding of the ecosystem and overcome “the navigation challenge” through a wide range of important insights — from the noting of ecosystem strengths and structural gaps to a breakdown of barriers experienced by innovators, what these findings mean for NHS Scotland, and recommendations for moving forward.
Gillian said: “We believe this webinar will provide important insights that will help early-stage health and social care innovators break down barriers to success and contribute to overcoming ‘the innovation challenge’.
“Our guest speakers DHI will provide attendees with a deep dive into its report and how it will ‘identify gaps, bottlenecks and duplication’ to assist Scotland’s forward-thinking entrepreneurs in their ambitions.
“This evidence-based overview of the health and social care ecosystem is undoubtedly an important step in ensuring improved clarity for those who might be unsure of how to start identifying the right support for their ideas.
“Please register to find out more and we will look forward to welcoming you on 26 May.”
The session includes a Q&A session with questions invited to be pre-submitted via [email protected].
InnoScot Health provides a package of support for ideas that meet its criteria, helping innovators turn concept into reality with the ultimate goal of getting a new product or service onto the market which can make a difference to patients and service users.
The organisation’s experts are particularly looking for innovations that target areas of unmet need and have commercial potential and invite pioneering thinkers to submit an idea.
