InnoScot Health’s webinar Preparing for Regulatory and Technological Change across the Medical Device Landscape has now been added to NHS Education for Scotland's (NES) Turas platform – helping to support NHS innovators access specialist regulatory advice and support

The session on medical device regulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers insight and expertise from InnoScot Health and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). It outlines the projected regulatory framework for medical devices in the UK as the sector experiences a period of significant change and transformation.

Elaine Gemmell, Head of Regulatory Affairs at InnoScot Health, said: “Collaboration is a vital part of improving health and social care in Scotland; and InnoScot Health is committed to working alongside NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government to share our expertise; in addition to bringing the specialist knowledge of key regulators such as MHRA.

“The medical device landscape is undergoing significant changes, with new legislation and developments in fast moving areas such as Artificial Intelligence. Against this backdrop it is more important than ever that NHS innovators are well informed and can access up to date, high-quality advice. Our webinar session is a great place to start - it spotlights the importance of fully understanding the medical device development pathway and offers important information in an easily accessible format.

“Extending the availability of the webinar through Turas has been supported by the Scottish Government Medical Device Policy Unit and will help innovators access learning resources through a recognised NHS education and learning platform.”

Turas was developed by NES to provide a centralised platform for its digital products and services. The Learn application is a content and learning management system that hosts learning materials for all health and social care staff and students in Scotland.

InnoScot Health continues to closely monitor developments in medical device regulation and offers a skilled team of regulatory experts to help innovators navigate what can often be a complex landscape. The organisation also operates an ISO 13485:2016 quality management system harmonised to the Medical Device Directive.

Consultancy, training, and advice is available to all NHS health boards, plus companies or universities working in partnership with NHS Scotland to develop medical devices. This ensures awareness and compliance with legal responsibilities and supports the design and development of products under an accredited regulatory framework.

As well as being available on Turas, the Preparing for Regulatory and Technological Change across the Medical Device Landscape session is also available on the InnoScot Health YouTube channel.

A range of resources and support are also available via our website and our online consultations allow NHS Scotland staff members to book dedicated time with a member of our team to receive advice and support.
