A free webinar for MedTech innovators will invite them to share in key insights around the next AI-led frontier of medical device development and deployment
On Wednesday 28 October, InnoScot Health — a key partner in realising healthcare innovation ambitions for Scotland — will be encouraging forward thinkers to better understand how to ensure the effective advancement of adaptive AI-enabled medical devices in line with regulatory needs.
Such devices use machine learning (ML) algorithms to continuously or iteratively learn from new patient data and update their performance after deployment.
InnoScot Health believes that this requires the careful balancing of cutting-edge thinking with rigorous patient safety frameworks, underpinned by robust clinical evidence. It will be encouraging in-depth discussions around its opportunities and challenges.
Next month’s lunch and learn session, entitled ‘Regulating adaptive AI-enabled medical devices — how to safely navigate the next frontier of development’, takes place from 12-12.45pm and will be presented by InnoScot Health’s Quality Manager, Lauren Brophy.
She will introduce the organisation’s ongoing aim to inspire and collaboratively support innovators working across Scotland’s ‘triple helix’ of NHS, industry, and academia for improved patient outcomes.
Lauren will be joined by a guest speaker from Scarlet — specialists in global certification for AI medical devices who believe that next generation technology can be accessed today when navigating the regulatory approval process correctly.
As part of a highly interactive session including open discussion and Q&A opportunities, the webinar will offer useful insights on:
- Risk classification — placing AI medical devices in the right Medical Device Regulation (MDR) class
- Clinical evidence — what's needed for tackling broad AI functionality and claims
- Post certification — managing AI changes quickly and safely
Presenting on behalf of Scarlet will be Dr Osman El-Koubani, a medical doctor, clinical researcher, and medical device software expert who works as a Clinical Engineer and AI/ML Regulatory Specialist.
