InnoScot Health is urging the NHS Scotland workforce to be inspired to ‘step out and innovate’ this Friday (21) by a global day of celebration

That is the theme of this year’s World Creativity and Innovation Day which aims to raise awareness of the importance of pioneering thinking in all aspects of human development.

First inaugurated in 2002, the day went on to be recognised as a United Nations International Day of Observance in 2017. It is now celebrated in more than 127 countries all over the world for its key message – of harnessing the true economic potential of all nations.

InnoScot Health believes the ‘step out and innovate’ message has particular resonance for NHS Scotland staff who may have ground-breaking ideas, simple or complex, on how to improve day to day practices but are not sure how to develop them.

The formal NHS partner is encouraging the workforce to use the 22nd World Creativity and Innovation Day – part of Part of World Creativity and Innovation Week (15-21 April) – as inspiration to kickstart their ambitions, focus their own unique expertise, and reach out for support.

InnoScot Health has been working in partnership with NHS Scotland for 20 years to inspire, accelerate, and commercialise fresh ideas.

It hopes World Creativity and Innovation Day can spark impactful innovations, in turn positively impacting health, social, and economic outcomes in key target areas for NHS Scotland, including sustainability, ophthalmology, and frailty.

Executive Chair of InnoScot Health, Graham Watson said: “World Creativity and Innovation Day reminds us to look beyond everyday life and do something different – to embrace the idea that anything is possible when we apply our own knowledge for creative, multidisciplinary thinking.

“It encourages us to step outside the box and attempt to change Scotland and the wider world for the better while reminding us to take positive action towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including good health, wellbeing, and economic growth.”

He added: “On #WCID 2023, InnoScot Health believes that the day’s collaborative message is especially important to support effective partnership working that brings together the right skills, expertise, and ambition to optimise Scottish health and social care innovation.

“We are certain that ground-breaking ideas emanating from within our NHS have the power to significantly improve health and social care for all, while supporting an ambitious, entrepreneurial, forward-thinking nation.”

Innovative ideas to any health challenge can be easily submitted through our online portal and an online consultation with InnoScot Health’s expert team can also be booked.
