The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) has been recognised at the prestigious Scottish Public Service Awards in Edinburgh this week following a partnership with InnoScot Health

DHI’s ground-breaking Right Decision Service for Scotland’s Health and Social Care won the Digital Public Services category which “recognises the use of technology to deliver improvements in public services to the citizen”.

The Right Decision Service – a first-for-Scotland project delivering a unique and growing suite of UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marked decision support tools – was developed thanks to a strong partnership between DHI and InnoScot Heath.

UKCA marking is required for all medical devices and the partnership successfully embedded validated evidence in digital tools and systems that are in daily use by health and social care staff.

The Right Decision Service has helped drive consistent, evidence-based practice across health and social care in Scotland thanks to it ensuring that all clinical safety, quality, and regulatory standards have been met.

Head of Regulatory Affairs at InnoScot Health, Elaine Gemmell said: “We want to congratulate DHI on their well-deserved award and are proud to have partnered with them on this first-for-Scotland innovation. Many of the tools are in wide use across health and social care and it means that staff can use them with full confidence.

"In response to unprecedented demand on health and care services, the national Right Decision Service enables people to make safe decisions quickly ‘on the go’, based on validated evidence. These decision support tools further work through day-to-day technology – from web and mobile apps to being embedded in electronic care systems."

Professor George Crooks OBE, Chief Executive Officer, Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, said: “It is heartening to see the real difference that the ethical and targeted use of digital technology can bring to the health and wellbeing of health and care recipients and staff delivering services alike has been recognised. Congratulations to Ann Wales and all involved in the evolution and delivery of this national asset for Scotland.”

Ann Wales, Programme Lead, Knowledge & Decision Support, Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, said: “In these challenging times, health and social care staff and citizens need access more than ever to tools that help them to make safe decisions quickly, based on validated evidence. This award recognises the important role that decision support plays in making it easier to do the right thing at the right time. It reflects the commitment and support of the many colleagues and partners who have supported the development of the Right Decision Service over the years.”
